The 2017 St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival, co-presented by Wells Fargo and St. Augustine Shipyard, returns for its sixth year on Sept. 8-10, 2017, with a Cava Reception and Dinner, Cochinillo Asado, Batalla de Vino and Grand Tasting. All of the events will take place at a new location this year, the St. Augustine Shipyard located at 117 Dockside Drive, which overlooks the San Sebastian River. Each year, festival proceeds benefit local charities, and this year’s charities include K-9s United and tag! Children’s Museum of St. Augustine.

“It is an honor to host the 2017 St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival at St. Augustine Shipyard,” said St. Augustine Shipyard General Manager Bob Thacker. “We are proud to be associated with this festival that significantly benefits local charities.”

The festival kicks off on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. with the Cava Reception and Dinner. Each course of this four-course dinner is paired with a Spanish wine. The evening concludes with a fireworks display over the San Sebastian River.

On Sept. 9, the Cochinillo Asado, Spanish pig roast, begins at 5 p.m. At this picnic, suckling pigs pit roasted in the Spanish tradition are served with fine Spanish wine and beer. Also, K-9s United will present a demonstration, and guests will have the opportunity to meet local law enforcement officers and their K-9s.

Also on Sept. 9, the Batalla de Vino, wine fight, begins at 6:30 p.m. For this event, participants dressed in white decorate friends and strangers with red wine.

The festival concludes on Sept. 10 with the Grand Tasting from 2-5 p.m. More than 100 Spanish wines are available to sample accompanied by Spanish-inspired hors d'oeuvres.

“Now in its sixth year, we’ve been able to fine tune the festival and bring together the best of everything,” said St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival Board of Directors President Charlie Seraphin. “This year’s festival features favorite elements of past festivals with a twist – a new location, St. Augustine Shipyard.”

Event tickets will be available to purchase through the website starting May 1, 2017.
